Handwrytten pricing explained: plans, per-card fees and postage

Handwrytten pricing, explained: $3.75 pay as you go or $449 to $2,499 a month plus a per-card fee, postage extra. What a card costs all-in at your volume.

Handwrytten charges $3.75 a card pay as you go, with postage billed on top at the USPS rate. Business plans cost $449 to $2,499 a month and lower the per-card fee to between $1.99 and $1.19, again plus postage. Once postage and the monthly fee are counted, a card costs about $4.53 at low volume and about $2.15 at 10,000 cards a month. The figures below are as listed on Handwrytten's site in October 2026, and they change, so confirm them before you buy.

We run notecardHQ, a competing service, so we have kept to Handwrytten's own published numbers and linked each one. There is a short note about where we fit at the end.

Pay as you go

Handwrytten's pricing page lists a retail price of $3.75 per standard card, with postage extra. Its own pages do not agree on that number: the company FAQ says pricing "starts at $3.25 per card," and its Shopify App Store listing says "$3.75-$4.00 per card sent, plus postage." We use $3.75, the pricing page figure.

  • Postage is billed at the current USPS rate. In an April 2026 interview, CEO David Wachs gave 2026 postage as $0.78 a piece for First Class, which makes a single card about $4.53 all-in.
  • Bulk discounts exist, described as "substantial," but the amounts are shown only after you sign up.
  • No minimum order is stated.

Business plans

Business plans add a monthly fee and cut the per-card price. Per the pricing page:

PlanMonthly feeBilled annuallyPer cardAdds
Pro$449$374 a month$1.99Account management, automation setup, Salesforce, Blackbaud, HubSpot and Shopify support
Enterprise$649$540 a month$1.49Bulk uploads, free CASS address validation, a branded portal, multi-user management
Elite$849$707 a month$1.29Priority mailing, quarterly strategy sessions, free delivery tracking, hosted integrations
Agency$2,499$2,082 a month$1.19Weekly strategy calls, hosted SFTP, free insert storage for up to 10 SKUs; contact sales

Every business plan includes API access, QR code tracking, automated birthday and anniversary cards, multistep campaigns and unlimited "Design Your Own" cards. Postage is extra on all of them.

One detail is easy to miss: monthly plans are "billed every 4 weeks." That is 13 bills a year, so the real monthly cost of a plan is about 8% higher than the sticker. The pricing page's headline of "$1.19 or less" a card is the Agency per-card fee, before the $2,499 monthly fee and postage.

Handwrytten also sells consumer subscriptions that renew every 30 days with rollover credits: Silver at $100 a month for 24 cards, Gold at $200 for 50, and Platinum at $382 for 100.

Add-ons and extra fees

From Handwrytten's FAQ and pricing page:

  • Custom handwriting font: $1,500 one time for a standard or all-caps style, $2,000 for cursive or blended.
  • Custom signature: $250.
  • Inserts: $50 setup, $20 a month storage with the first month billed upfront, and $0.50 per insert sent.
  • Gift cards: $5 to $100, plus a convenience fee whose amount is not stated. Gift cards are not covered by subscription credits.
  • International: postage plus a $0.10 per card surcharge for manual processing. The FAQ gives the international stamp as $1.70.

Which option is cheapest at your volume

Each plan's monthly fee has to be spread across the cards you send, so the cheapest option changes with volume. Using the monthly (not annual) fees and $0.78 postage, and leaving out inserts and gift cards, our arithmetic gives these break points: pay as you go is cheapest below about 255 cards a month, Pro from about 255 to 400, Enterprise from 400 to 1,000, Elite from 1,000 to about 16,500, and Agency above that.

Cards a monthCheapest Handwrytten optionHandwrytten all-in per cardnotecardHQ all-in per card
100Pay as you go$4.53$3.25
300Pro$4.27$3.25
500Enterprise$3.57$2.95
1,000Enterprise or Elite$2.92$2.95
2,500Elite$2.41$2.35
10,000Elite$2.15$1.95
20,000Agency$2.09$1.95

Two caveats. Annual billing lowers every plan's fee, which helps Handwrytten at the middle volumes. And its retail bulk discounts are not public, so a small sender may pay less than $4.53 after signing up. In the other direction, 13 bills a year push the plan figures up slightly. The cost calculator runs the same comparison for any volume and any share of international mail.

Where Handwrytten is the better pick

  • You need native CRM apps. Handwrytten is listed on the Salesforce AppExchange and the HubSpot Marketplace, has a Shopify app, and connects to Blackbaud Raiser's Edge, CDK/Fortellis and Tekion, plus Zapier and Make (integrations).
  • You want a font made from your own handwriting, or a choice of styles: its Shopify listing claims 35.
  • You send gift cards or inserts and want them handled by the same vendor.
  • You send at steady, high volume and value an account team, CASS validation and an uptime SLA, which come with the larger plans.
  • Scale matters. Handwrytten says it runs 200 robots and has sent more than 16 million notes (FAQ).

Where notecardHQ fits

notecardHQ is a smaller service. Robots holding real pens write every card in New York, and OCR reads every word back before the pen moves. One price per card covers card, handwriting, envelope and postage: $3.25 in the US at up to 499 cards a month, $2.95 from 500, $2.35 from 2,500 and $1.95 from 10,000, with international cards $1.00 more at each tier. There is no monthly fee, and the API, test keys, the MCP server for AI agents and the portal come with every account. Against Handwrytten we are cheaper at low volume and close at 1,000 to 2,500 a month. Our gaps are real: four handwriting styles (not dozens), no custom fonts, and no native CRM apps; we connect through the API and integration recipes instead.
