Send handwritten notes from Zapier, no code

Any app Zapier can watch can send a handwritten card. Use a Webhooks by Zapier action to call the notecardHQ API, no code required.

What you need

  • A Zapier plan that includes Webhooks by Zapier.
  • A trigger that carries a name and a mailing address: a new Stripe customer, a Shopify order, a HubSpot deal stage, a form response.
  • A notecardHQ API key.

Set up the action

  1. Add an action step: Webhooks by Zapier, event Custom Request.
  2. Method: POST. URL: https://you.notecardhq.com/api/v1/notes (your workspace).
  3. Data pass-through: off. Data: the JSON body below, with the trigger's fields mapped in.
  4. Headers:
    • Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY
    • Content-Type: application/json
    • Idempotency-Key: a value unique to the event, for example zap: plus the trigger record's id
{
  "externalId": "{{record id}}",
  "recipient": {
    "firstName": "{{first name}}",
    "lastName": "{{last name}}",
    "address1": "{{street}}",
    "address2": "{{apartment}}",
    "city": "{{city}}",
    "state": "{{state}}",
    "postalCode": "{{zip}}",
    "country": "US"
  },
  "content": "Hi {{first name}},\n\nThank you for choosing us.\n\nThe team"
}

Test it on yourself

Use a test key while you build the Zap: Zapier's test step then creates a test note that is never written or mailed. Before turning the Zap on, switch to your live key and run one record with your own address.

Keep it from sending twice

Zapier can replay steps. Because the Idempotency-Key comes from the trigger record, a replay returns the original note instead of mailing a second card.

Field rules, statuses and errors are in the API reference. Prefer another language? See the quickstart.
